There may be additional competitions and performances that will arise throughout the 2015/2016 year that we will participate in. We will notify you ASAP!

The 2015-2016 Performing Groups season runs from 9/01/15 to 8/31/16 (through Festival Ironwood). All members who join a Performing Group (PG) at IDC are required to remain in classes for the entire PG season. Any member who drops a team or who is removed from a team at any time before 8/31/16 will be billed a removal fee of $50.00 and will be due in a one lump sum within 30 days of billing.

Class attendance is mandatory. One student, who misses class on a regular or irregular basis, will slow down and hold back an entire team. Any student who misses class the week before a competition, performance or recital will not be allowed to participate in that particular event. Students are expected to be on time for class. If a student shows up unprepared for class, displays a negative or disrespectful disposition or does not participate in class to his or her full potential; that student will not be allowed to participate in class that day, and will be marked absent due to the lack of participation in class and the parent will be notified. Any student who has six (6) absences during the competition season will be removed from the team, and will be billed a removal fee of $50.00 for the season in one lump sum.

Required Competition Dress Code: Hair must be securely tied back and bangs must be clipped up and off of the face during all practices. Top: Tank tops or leotards. Bottom: Shorts with tights. Anything else needs the teacher’s ok. Shoes: Dance shoes required for each team must be worn for each class. Any student who shows up un-prepared for class will be marked absent for the day.

Attendance at recital (June 10 & 11, 2016), all performances and all competitions listed above is required for all PG team members. Transportation to and from competitions and all other performing events is the sole responsibility of the student and parent. Any student who does not show up for a performance, competition or recital due to lack of transportation; lack of pre-planning or lack of awareness of a particular event will immediately be removed from the team.

Additional PG rehearsals and meeting: IDC will hold additional rehearsals to prepare students for the competitions that they will be participating in. It is imperative to the success of the team that every team member is present at all additional rehearsals. The team instructor will make an announcement in advance when extra practices are due (expect at least two or three). Parents and Students are required to attend one hair, make-up and costume clinic regardless of the parent/performer’s prior experience if needed by the instructor. The hair and make-up clinic will be scheduled at a later date TBA.

Costumes, make-up, shoes, props, hair and dance gear are required for all competition students. It is the parent’s and the performer’s responsibility to show up at each competition and performance 1 hour before they go on stage in full hair and make-up with proper costuming. Any performer who fails to do so will not be allowed to perform, as allowing ill prepared students to perform will lower the appearance and professionalism of the entire team.

If a student is not able to attend a competition or recital for any reason, the instructor MUST be notified before the student signs up for the Performing Group team in as early in the season as possible (2 month notice) so the instructor can prepare for a missing individual. If a parent fails to notify an instructor of a member’s absence, and additional practices need to be scheduled for the team to re-organize a routine, the parent of the missing student will be charged a fee of $25.00 per hour for each hour of studio time that is required. In addition, in order to allow the team to perform, it is required that you borrow your costume and props to any alternate member who is willing to take your place for any missed competition, recital or performance. This also includes any instance where a performer is removed from a team for reasons such as lack of attendance or failure to follow parent, student and teacher ethics.

There is a $5.00 per student per hour studio fee for all large groups of 6 or more or $30.00 per hour for all small groups of 5 and under for all extra rehearsals. This fee will be charged to your family account.

For your convenience, competition entry fees will be charged to your family account as they arise and are due on the competition deadline date. Past Rates were: TUTC Competitions - $24.00 per person per team; Celebrations - $ TBA per person per team; Dance Magic - $30.00 per person per team.
There is a $5.00 Coaching Fee (per team/class) assessed to each competitor (per competition) to help cover coach expenses such as gas, lodging, food and etc. for the instructor.

Parent, Student and Instructor Ethics:

  • When you attend an event with your team, you are representing Ironwood Dance Company. Any parent or student who displays a negative disposition at any competition or performance will IMMEDIATELY be removed form the team. This includes but is not limited to: Swearing or any foul language among yourselves or around any other teams or instructors, negative comments about another team or performer of any kind, participating in any type of gossip or rumors, students and parents arguing among themselves, displaying poor sportsmanship, failing to follow the rules of any given competition or contest director and/or performance venue..

  • IDC will not tolerate any arguing, jealousy or gossip between team members or parents or lack of effort. This includes but is not limited to: Discouraging another team member, starting or participating in gossip, arguments or rumors, tattle-tailing, laziness in class or at the performance, disrespect for your child, your parent, team members or coaches. In the rare event that a problem arises, please notify your coach immediately. All parties involved will receive one warning. If the problem continues to exist, all participating parties will be removed from the team. 

  • If any issues arise throughout the year, we prefer to discuss issues in person. We will not discuss issues through email or over the phone. Parents can schedule a meeting with Margaret Grachek to discuss matters in person.
